Velkomin!

We are an Icelandic couple who have long been fascinated by beautiful houses and travel. For the past 10 years, we have rented out these two houses, and it gives us great pleasure to welcome guests who appreciate good design and enjoy relaxing in cozy, beautiful surroundings.

Rut is an interior designer, so she naturally took care of the layout, interior design, and décor of both houses. You can learn more about her work at www.rutkara.is.

In 2015, we built the Black House together with a company specializing in traditional timber houses inspired by those commonly found in Iceland during the 18th and 19th centuries. Originally, the black color of these houses came from tar; today, modern materials are used to achieve the same distinctive appearance. We were delighted when we found the perfect location for the Black House, right by the shore at the foot of Mount Hafnarfjall in West Iceland.

We acquired the Barn House on Iceland’s South Coast in 2015. We had noticed it during our regular drives and visits to the area, shortly after it was built in 2010. Then, by sheer coincidence—or perhaps fate—Rut spotted a small newspaper advertisement saying that the house was for sale while having breakfast. Just a couple of days later, we had signed the papers.

We live in Reykjavík, but whenever our busy schedules allow, we try to stay at one of the houses to relax and unwind. Every time we visit, we are reluctant to leave and wish we could stay longer.

We are delighted to share these beautiful places with you and hope you will enjoy them as much as we do. We have also prepared detailed guidebooks for our guests, filled with useful tips and information to help you make the most of your stay and explore West and Southwest Iceland.
